Hurricane Ian Recovery
There is nothing more important for our Village and nonprofit organization than focusing on restoration efforts and collectively rallying to support the rebuilding of our historical buildings. It will take all of you to rebuild it. We will need the support of the Sanibel community and beyond to stand behind the Historical Museum & Village and to financially contribute to these efforts to protect our Sanibel history, now more important than ever.
If you would please consider making a donation, all donations will be dedicated to helping with the rebuilding process. No amount is too small. You can also contact our Executive Director, Emilie Alfino, at 239-357-1644 or at info@sanibelmuseum.org with any questions.

Letter from our President
We have recently received the preliminary damage assessment of the Sanibel Historical Museum & Village from the City of Sanibel.
The initial good news is the buildings are standing and amazingly withstood this once-in-500-years hurricane. However, they all have experienced varying levels of damage. While the insurance inspection of the Historical Museum buildings has been completed by the City, it’s important to note that the insurance adjuster has not completed their process.
We have established a designated team to assist with artifact protection and are setting up a process of tagging all artifacts that should be saved. Only designated team members are permitted to enter the buildings. We are, however, encouraging volunteer help with mitigation measures as we establish a plan with the City. If you are able to volunteer, please email info@sanibelmuseum.org and indicate your interest and availability. The mitigation contractor for the City, Belfor, will be onsite and will assist in the mitigation measures.
So far, the damage to the Village, based on the preliminary insurance estimates, comes to approximately $1.35 million. The damage has been extensive, and it will take a lot of money, materials, and manpower to restore these buildings.
We thank the City of Sanibel, the mayor, vice mayor, city manager and city crisis manager, as well as all the support staff, for their dedication and help with the recovery efforts. We expect to collaborate closely with the City on the rebuilding efforts in the months and years ahead.
